SpendR

A gift-card wallet that checks balances for you.

Scan a gift card, keep its balance current, and show a scannable code at the register. Checking a balance usually means calling a phone line and typing in a long card number, so SpendR does the call for you.

The hard part

A phone app can't place the call itself.

An app can't dial a store's balance line and press digits for you, so SpendR's one cloud feature does it. A server places the call, keys in the card number as tones, turns the recorded answer into text, and pulls the balance out of it.

It's built not to look like fraud. Running card numbers against balance lines is exactly what gift-card thieves do, so checks are limited to three every five minutes and twenty a day per person, one call at a time. The card number is used for the call and then thrown away, never stored.

Stack and role

I built it alone with AI coding agents, and tested the Android build on a real phone. The iPhone build is waiting on an Apple developer account, so the project is paused.
